A unified API for negotiation in multimedia middleware

The Next Generation Network (NGN) supports endto-end negotiation between NGN entities and such of other networks [16]. However, interoperability between different negotiation protocols depends on gateways and benefits of upcoming protocols cannot be utilised. We proclaim, that a multimedia middleware avoids the need for gateways by enabling the application itself to cope with different protocols. This is realized by exchanging the underlying protocol transparently to the application through a unified API. Therfore, we define a generic programming model and introduce a multimedia ontology abstracting from specific protocol representations.
